. This form consists of three parts: - contact and billing information;
- description of project (optional); and
- sample information and chip type.
Sample SubmissionQuantityFor concentrations, volumes and masses, please refer to the specific assay that you want to run. Sample NamesBecause of software restrictions, sample names may only consist of the following characters: - UPPER and lower case letters
- Arabic numerals 0-9
- hyphen –
- period .
- underscore _
Tubes - Standard 1.5 mL Eppendorf tubes are required (If you submit samples in another type of tube, they will be returned to you, and you will need to transfer them to standard 1.5 mL Eppendorf tubes before resubmission.).
- Write the sample name on the top of the tube, and write your initials on the side of each tube.
- Check that the sample name that is written on the tube is exactly the same as the sample name that has been entered on the Project form.
Sample Drop-offROOMLocation – room 1129 in the Smith Building Entry – If you are a DFCI employee, use your DFCI ID card to enter the room. If you are not a DFCI employee, first obtain a Visitor Pass at the Security Desk in the Smith Building lobby, then dial 2-3131 on the red phone near SM1129, and ask for SM1129 to be unlocked. Note: This location is different from the Fish room on the bridge between the Smith Building and the Jimmy Fund Building. SAMPLES You will need a printed copy of the application form as well to include with your samples. Please also send a completed electronic file of your application form to the

For RNA samples, place your 1.5mL tubes (with the sample name written on the top, and your initials written on the side), along with your printed application form, into one of the coolers which is located in the bottom half of the -80°C freezer. Select the cooler size that is most appropriate for your number of samples. Place the cooler containing the samples and application form into the upper half of the -80°C freezer. Samples that are left in any other type of box will NOT be transported to the core. Our courier will only deliver the blue cooler boxes. For DNA samples, place your 1.5mL tubes (with the sample name written on the top, and your initials written on the side), along with your printed application form, into one of the coolers which is located in the bottom shelf of the 4°C refrigerator. Select the cooler size that is most appropriate for your number of samples. Place the cooler containing the samples and application form onto the upper shelf of the 4°C refrigerator. Samples that are left in any other type of box will NOT be transported to the core. Our courier will only deliver the blue cooler boxes. Sample Return People who wish to keep any total RNA or DNA or any derivative of the total RNA or DNA that may be produced during processing will able to do so. However, the Microarray Core’s procedure for returning samples has changed. The updated application form has a field in the upper table asking whether you want your samples returned. If you indicate that you do wish to have them returned, we will deliver the samples back to the Smith Building. An email will be sent alerting you that your samples have been delivered. The delivery date of the samples will be kept in a log with your name and the date your samples were delivered to the Smith Building. If you fail to pick up your samples after one month following the delivery date, your samples will be discarded. If you do not wish to keep your samples, they will be discarded once your scan data has been posted. ResultsYou will be notified when your data has been posted at a password-protected URL. If a problem arises with the analysis of one or more of your specimens, you will be contacted at that time. We have a new data portal for the access of client data.
